We're in Texas

For those of you who still check my blog, we have arrived in Texas (and finally gotten back online). This will be quick since we are still under mountains of boxes. Our trip was uneventful--good weather, no vehicle problems and decent traffic. God surely blessed us during this entire process.

I rented the truck a week ago Monday and loaded alot myself that afternoon. Then, Tuesday thanks to Hyatt, Jack and Richard we finished loading everything we own and then cleaned our house. The next day (Wednesday) we had the final walk-through with the buyers at noon and then closed on the sale of the house at 3:00 pm. (In between the walk-thru and closing Kenley took us to lunch. Anyone wanting to buy or sell a house should definitely use Kenley!).

We headed out for Texas on Thursday morning. The 1500 miles took us 4 days since we did have 3 cats (who don't like traveling) and the 26' truck fully loaded could only reach 70 mph downhill. I drove the truck and Lucy and the cats followed in the van. I left the car with a friend in Tally and will fly back there on December 1st and get the car and drive it out here (of course, I left my golf clubs in the trunk and plan on one more round of golf with my golfing buddies there).

So, we got here to El Paso on Sunday and had the final walk-thru on our new house at 10:00 am on Monday morning and closed on the house at 2:00 pm that same day. That evening we started unloaded as much of the truck as we could ourselves. We saved all the heavy stuff for Tuesday morning when I had some hired help. After finishing unloading the truck, we had to take the truck to our temp storage and load all the stuff I drove out here last month. We unloaded that Wednesday morning and had to return the truck Wednesday afternoon.

While we were doing all this unloading we also had the phone company, cable company and alarm company personnel here installing their stuff.

So, today is Thanksgiving and we have been very busy unpacking boxes and trying to get a little order. Some day we need to get to the grocery store because we have absolutely NO food in the house. Speaking of Thanksgiving, we do have so much to be thankful for. Well, the boxes are calling again.

A Lot of Lasts

Well, everything is progressing well for our move, but it's getting here quickly. I realize I've been doing many things for the last time.

- Saturday we had our last (it was also our first) garage sale forever.

- Sunday was our last week at Northwoods. (Although we don't actually leave until next Thursday, I'm picking up the rental truck first thing Monday morning and we need to finish all our packing and start cleaning our house this weekend.) Yesterday was a very emotional day for us with lots of tears shed. We have so many great friends that we will truly miss.

- Today was my last round of golf in Tallahassee before we leave.

- Sunday evening we had a last get together with the people from our old home LIFE Group (they had a dinner for us)

- This is most likely my last blog for several weeks. I'll be packing up the computer later this week which means no access to the internet until we get settled in our new home and find an internet provider.

Of course, I'm really looking forward to a couple more lasts:

- Packing the last box (I'm not sure that will ever end--I think our stuff multiplies at night).

- Making my last drive out to El Paso (1500 miles). (I still have 2 trips to make. When we leave next week I'll be driving the rental truck and Lucy will drive our van. We are leaving our car with a friend and I'll be flying back to Tallahassee on December 1st to pick it up and drive it to El Paso.)

- Our last move. (We thought that when I retired and we moved to Tallahassee that was our last move, but now we're moving again. Then, after we get to El Paso and settled in our new home, we will start looking to build our permanent home there, which will mean another move sometime next year.)

I guess I better get off the computer and pack to packing.
